Katiedids!
Are these cool or what?!! Our fun and talented bead blogger friend, Katie Hacker , has teamed with Beadalon to design a line of great new components! You might know Katie from her NUMEROUS books or seen her on the PBS television show, “Beads, Baubles & Jewels“. She previously had a segment on the show and has just been named the new host, HOW EXCITING! I am honored to have received a preview of one of the new component pieces in her Beadalon line! These are silver plated, 2-hole sticks, and there are 6 in the package! I’m thinking 6 single pendants for me and my friends OR a long pendant using 3 for me and ONE friend
I was even thinking this could be made into a fabulous focal bead in a bracelet! There are so many possibilities and I can’t wait to start really thinking about it! I was very impressed with the packaging! When you open the Katiedids, the package turns into a tri-fold sheet of colorful step-by-step instructions! I just received these in the mail today, so I haven’t had a chance to get creative.

This Week’s Project: New Spin on a Bracelet Project
I made this hemp cord bracelet a couple weeks ago as I was preparing for the Beads, Baubles and Jewels show. It was created as a variation of the project I was presenting from my book, the Florida Palms bracelet. The original piece is made in all green hemp cord that is a bit heavier gauge, the loops are longer and pointier and the crystals/beads sewn on are in the green family. I thought it would be fun to try making the same piece using two different colors of a dantier gauge cord. Basically, the bracelet is just a pattern of square knot, loop, square knot, loop, etc. With the cord being softer, it also made sense to make small loops and allow them to remain rounded. The The final step was sewing on a topaz mix of ebeads and swarovski crystals. I think it turned out fun and kind of sweet! I love how things like this work out! I might not have attempted to create variations on the Florida Palms bracelet if it weren’t for this TV opportunity.

How to Make A Seedbead Cabochon Necklace
Tweet This necklace looks like a pretty multi-chain affair. What I really liked about the video tutorial is the way the instructor, Kristal Wick created cabochons with seed beads and picture frames or ready made bezels. She used ready mix resin to set the seed beads in place. I like the look of resin jewelry. But the mixing of 2-part epoxy resin…not so much. So I really liked her creative use of Magic-Glos UV resin Polymer clay and mixed media artisans would no doubt be aware of this product. It sets when exposed to sunlight. Using a UV lamp sure makes it much quicker. The instructions and materials needed for creating this necklace can be found on the Beads, Baubles and Jewels site. This Week’s Project: Getting Ready for TV!
I have been keeping this to myself, but I’m about to explode with excitement over it so it must be time to share!… I am so full of gratitude to have been asked to be a guest on the PBS television show, “Beads, Baubles and Jewels!”, YAY! For the first moment I was nervous and then I thought, YES, I am so excited to share my ideas with everyone! I will be heading up to Cleveland, Ohio for the taping in about a week or so which means I have been wrapping up loose ends in preparation for this experience. I was asked to demonstrate a specific project from my book, A Bead in Time. For those of you who have the book and know the projects, it’s the “Florida Palms” macrame project. I was surprised this was the request at first, but after a couple minutes of thinking about it, it completely made sense. It is a project very near and dear to my heart, it’s a very unique project and has the potential for a variety of new ideas you could incorporate into your designs!

Featured Designer: Syndee Holt
Happy Friday everyone! It’s always a great day when I get to share a wonderful designer with you and today is extra special! I had the pleasure of meeting the multi-talented Syndee Holt in Cleveland a few weeks ago while we were both on deck to tape a segment for the PBS show Beads, Baubles and Jewels! We got to hang out, admire each other’s work and even have dinner together. I learned so much from Syndee who is a freelance writer for quite a few magazines including, Belle Armoire, Polymer Cafe, Step by Step Wire, Step by Step Beads and Somerset Gallery. Syndee is also the author of, “Polymer clay for the first time”. Most importantly, I learned I want to be just like her when I grow up! She allows all her talents and interests to shine brightly whether it’s creating with polymer clay, jewelry making, writing or photography.

Marco Bicego 18K Gold Bead Bracelet: A Contradiction in Terms
Refined and understated. Bold and high-impact. Glance over your jewel box and you’ll see that most of your beads and baubles fall into one of those two categories, but I’m willing to bet, you won’t find many that fit into both. That’s what makes Marco Bicego’s layered bracelet such an incredible piece. Out of the exotic Africa collection, inspired by intense sub-Saharan wilderness, there’s an ethnic influence to the shapes of the beads. Daring and irregular in form and size, Bicego revels in their imperfections, and so do I! These hefty 18-karat gold spheres are spaced out generously so each one can receive the attention it deserves. Classic and modern at once, three strands (fixed and closed with a bar clasp) really get the point across, whereas any less would fall short and any more would be pure excess. And what is the point? It’s, of course, to marvel over this bracelet’s earthy solid-gold beauty. Yes, solid-gold with a price to match .
