Second Chances: Six New Ways to Use a Wine Rack
Using the wine rack as your cooking command station ensures that your beloved staple from a back issue of Gourmet won’t get lost. Push it against a wall (this is a must!) and use the unit as a jewelry holder. Place rings in one hole, necklaces in another, bangles in another and so on. Keep the more expensive pieces in their original felt bags and boxes and store them in their own cubby. Turn it on its side and place little planters atop each hole. Fill each with a different herb or colorful flower and you’ve got a miniature garden. Another option on its side: Place skinny glass vases in each hole, and a single seasonal flower in each vase. The wine rack becomes a funky container for the vase grouping. Keep the unit in a mudroom and use it as a shoe rack for flip flops, house slippers and more. This solution is particularly great as we’re gearing up to spend more time outside! (Image: Style Crave ) Sarah Firshein May 28, 2010 04:30PM Comments Tags Roundup , creative reuse , wine rack Share

Become a Master of Invention and Transformation
Retailers knew you would be and have empty bottles priced at a premium for just this purpose located in the cleaning aisle. Keep walking and head on over to the garden section instead to pay fraction of the cost. Or, better yet, skip buying something new entirely and simply recycle an old, empty spray bottle you have at home. (Just make sure to rinse it out completely to avoid mixing the two substances.) Sometimes trying to find ways to effectively save money can leave you feeling a bit like a magician. If so, harness the power of that feeling and focus it on transforming items around your home. Find yourself needing something? Go shopping in your cabinets, closets and drawers instead of the store. While untraditional solutions courtesy of DIY household transformations can sometimes take a bit of getting used to, the immediate savings can help soothe the shock. Old ice trays make phenomenal earring trays and jewelry holders.

DVF Goes Deep-Sea Diving At Maison Darr
Darr was inspired, he said, by a bathroom order from a very eccentric private client. I began to think about the lobsters Dal designed for Schiaparelli, which she used for a dress. I started with a lobster jewelry holder The collection just took off from there. It was finding some very appreciative fans. Diane von Furstenberg, on the arm of M. Louboutin ( left ), was ogling a pair of wiggly bronze octopus sconces. I think I want one of those, she said before placing her order on the spot.

Changing Seasons
We headed home, and the big kids were home from school. They had a TON of fun helping Jimmy build his birthday presents. And yeah, he totally trashed the remote control in the first 30 minutes, but whatever. He’s just a rough little boy, I guess… And here’s my new bedspread! It’s perfect for fall
And I was noticing that my jewelry holder from Brent is completely full, and I need an additional one, I think. hehehe. Or I need to stop going to Jewelry Box so often! ROFL! I started on food for the kids, and it smelled SO good. Tomato, Basil, and Garlic pork. Mmmm, so good
I cut those rolls in half, and made sandwiches for the kids. I just ate the meat, and LOVED it. With cucumbers
And some microwave popcorn and an apple. See, I’m still eating
And after we ate, Brent came home. Who was that happy, smiley man who came inside my house? He was laughing and joking and beaming. OK, whatever pills they gave him are MIRACLE drugs. He was crying and depressed and weepy this morning when he left.

Sunday at the Flea Market
Here is a Madeleine doll house. Remeber in the Madeleine books how the dining table and the rows of beds went on forever? In the house they’ve painted them on the walls–how cute. What a nice weasel. I asked the seller about this–he is actually a 1920s German mask for Mardi Gras, with two holes in it for you to see through. My mom and I found so many great things–I have not photographed any of it yet but an art dealer from Oklahoma had some incredible stock that had been in storage for years. I am so excited about it. I must take pictures soon! I got some huge books of Disney animation history too. A pair of harlequin bookends. An amazing pair of Mexican vases that now flank my mom’s desk. A cool candle holder that has now become a jewelry holder. This vintage Jean Paul Gaultier biker jacket was a steal–can’t believe it. What a piece. My little sister Carol has been busy in the kitchen again–look at the beautiful cake she made!! YUM! The doggies want a piece… Townsend, my corgi, being ridiculous.
